    Getting On With It

“Time and tide wait for no man,” to me, is a great way of saying, “get over yourself and get on with it.” That pretty well describes the frame of mind I find myself in these days, having been through the mill of public opinion in the past few months, gone through the worst of it and come out the other side feeling good, refreshed in a way, definitely a bit wiser for the wear and ready- as always- to keep working and keep the momentum going.

One of the places I’ve decided to start is on this blog. My hope is that this provides a way for me to communicate with so many of you who have supported me with thousands of emails and letters and good wishes. I’d like to use it to talk about things that are important to me and may be informative to you, causes that I think are worth attention, my ideas about food, interesting stories and events, things like that. I’d also like to use it, at least in these early days, to set the record straight and correct some notions that have been circulating out there that need correction.

To begin with, it’s true that I have moved on from Dinner: Impossible in as amiable a fashion as possible. I had a great time working on the show and feel that the episodes with which I was involved, now running on Food Network, speak for themselves and I’m proud of the work. As for the manner in which I left the show, I will refrain from commenting publicly, except to say that in situations like these, you find out pretty quickly who your friends are.

There are some rumors and stories that have spread over the internet and in the papers, some containing only a grain of truth, most untrue, some wildly inaccurate. I’m not going to bore anyone by rehashing old tales or defending against every misinformed accusation. There are two that trouble me more than the others, though, and those concern my service in the British Royal Navy with the Royal Family and the time I’ve spent working at the White House in Washington, DC. I’ll try to keep it simple.

I joined the Royal Navy in my teens, signed up as a cook and was lucky enough to find my life’s calling early. There I met with a great opportunity, to cook for Prince Charles in the Officer’s Mess at RNAS Culdrose whilst he was reupping his flight certification. I was recommended shortly after meeting him for service on the Royal yacht, Britannia. I served as Leading Cook on the Britannia for many years, as attested by my military record and by the multiple passports I filled up with stamps from countries all over the world. I traveled with the Royals, learned a great deal about my profession in their service and was honored to prepare meals in many locales and under many circumstances for Her Majesty, the Queen, for Prince Charles, Princess Diana and many members of the Royal household as well as for their honored guests over the ensuing years.

When I left the military and came eventually to America, I was employed for a time as Executive Chef for Donald Trump’s Taj Mahal. I did a favor in the course of my work for a gentleman from the US Navy, a Commander of Naval Supply, through whom I met a great man and made a great friend, Clive “Tony” Powell, then Deputy Director for Presidential Food Service for the White House. He invited me to cook and train chefs that work in the Naval Mess at the White House under the Guest Chef program, not as “the White House Chef,” a title which I never claimed. I’ve been going to the White House since the 1990’s. I’ve cooked for heads of state, senior staff, senators and congressmen, celebrities and VIP guests, been aboard Air Force One, and yes, have served my food to US Presidents. I’ve made lifelong friends there and if you’ll permit me, and with their permission, I’ve lifted a couple of quotes from letters they’ve sent me over the years.

Michael H. Miller, Rear Admiral, Deputy Assistant to the President, Director, White House Military Office. Admiral Miller was the first active-duty officer to direct the White House Military Office, which includes all military support to the White House, including for Air Force One, Camp David and Presidential Food Service, from a letter dated 1/21/05: “… the White House Mess has always served good food; what it needed was a master’s touch to provide truly exceptional dining experiences. And that is precisely what you taught us… by lending your name, your time and your talents to the White House, you have helped us to literally recraft the image of this most exclusive mess. Your involvement and active support… created a revolution of sorts in the Presidential Food Service...”

Letter from F.X Fuller, Director, Presidential Food Service, June 14, 2002:
“Dear Robert, Thank you very much for volunteering your valuable time for coming to the White House to train our chefs. Your culinary skills and current cooking techniques you shared with our staff have enabled us to take our service to an even higher level. The fact that you are giving back to your community clearly demonstrates that you are a great mentor, true professional and above all, loyal citizen of the United States. You can be assured your efforts have already been recognized by President Bush and senior White House staff…”

I’m putting these out there not to be self-serving, but to get some sort of third party validation on the record. When you are fortunate enough to be of service to powerful people for whom you have the deepest respect, they rely on your discretion. I’m loath to put out anything further on either of these matters for public consumption and hope this puts them to rest.

Regarding resumes; I am a professional chef, trained by great chefs and instructors, some of whom are world-renowned. I think it is worth mentioning that, as an Executive Chef, I have been in charge of kitchens in the Navy, on cruise ships and in hotels and casinos and have hired and fired hundreds of chefs and I didn’t hire a single one of them based on what I might have read on their resume. I listened to personal recommendations about them from other chefs and then I found out for myself if they could cook. If they could cook and were willing to work hard, they got the job, case closed.

Interestingly, my resume is not what got me the job on Dinner: Impossible. The show was created by Brian O'Reilly, a writer and producer who became executive producer of the show, and was based on events from my life and on skills that I had developed over the course of my career that were unique to me: cooking at a high culinary level under pressure, often for large numbers of people, sometimes with limited resources and an ability to improvise with whatever I had on hand to get the job done. We arranged a date to fix a gourmet luncheon for the players and coaches of the NY Rangers and the NY Knicks at their training facility in New York (21 dishes served in a buffet line for 60 people in 3 hours) and from there produced a “sizzle” reel that demonstrated the concept for the show (which was originally called “Fit For A King”). Food Network saw the sizzle reel, loved it, added the element of keeping each “mission” a secret from me until I arrived on the scene, changed the name, bought the show, and the rest is history.

I had a great run on Dinner: Impossible and I know that there’s more excitement on the horizon, so stay tuned. My deep and heartfelt thanks goes out to Randall Williams, my business partner and friend, to Brian and Virginia O’Reilly and to my incredible family for their steadfast and unwavering support through all of this. Let’s all look to the future and get this party started!

Excellent, concise and right from the heart blog.
Linda and I are happy to hear you are building bigger bridges and we know that takes time.

If possible, would you be putting out a calendar of your scheduled appearances? We try to catch up with you whenever you are in New Jersey. and of course would love to get a chance to taste that fine cooking once again!

    Robert,

I had the incredible fortune of meeting you on September 11th, 2007 as I was on my way to New York City to appear (and unashamedly fall on face) on the game show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". I missed a ridiculously easy question, the result of, for the first ime in my life, allowing myself to get caught up in the moment of having the most fun I have ever had, and the resulting bout of temporary mindlessness made for m y early exit from the show. However, if someone were to tell me tomorrow I could go do it again with the same result, I would jump at the chance.

Anyway, I had bumped my seat to first class for the flight to NYC, and about 30 seconds after I took my seat, none other than you and your Dad sat in the row behind me. You were on your way to NYC for a publicity tour of your new book, we talked about many things, including my passion for food and cooking and how like you, I get great pleasure in seeing people eat and enjoy the food I prepare. In fact, you actually offered me a job at your new restaurants in St. Pete. An offer I still think about daily...and if I was able to afford moving my family to FL to work for you, I assure you I would absolutely have that conversation with my wife tonight!

I was so impressed with your kindness and generosity and sincerity, the fact that we didn't know each other from Adam, but, with your Dad, had a conversation that felt like we were old friends reacquainted after years apart to this day amazes me.

Upon our conversation on that flight, I proceeded to have the time of my life in NYC. I failed on the show, then spent the next 6 hours walking around the city. At first, feeling sorry for myself. But, eventually, meeting people from all over the world that left everything they knew and everyone they loved to follow their dreams of making it in NYC. I realized that just maybe there was a higher power at work on my trip, having met you, "failed" by conventional definitions on the show but still to this day, knowing that trip and experience changed me in ways I needed to be changed.

Life is full of surprises. Some, like bonking on a game show, to show us what is really important in life. Each of the other people with me as contestants that day on the show needed the money so much more than me....I ultimately walked away not feeling sorry for me, but hoping and praying that each of them did better than me. I've since started writing my own blog, about issues that I am passionate toward. I've stopped, for the most part, putting off til tomorrow things I have dreamed of doing and when possible I am making those things happen for me and my family.

As you have likely discovered, it is when we originally view something as negative, that the truth in the world, our place in it, and the people in our lives, becomes crystal clear. In the end it is the adversity that not only makes us stronger, but points us in the direction we are supposed to follow.

We all make mistakes during life. And sometimes life takes twists and turns we never see coming.

I don't care about all the details regarding the show and what went down. I know that if you knocked on my door tomorrow needing a place to stay, you would be welcomed in with open arms. In the brief meeting and time we spent on that plane, I met Chef Robert Irvine, one of the most genuine, sincere and good people I have ever had the good fortune to meet.

Next time you are in Charlotte, NC, let me know so I can take you out for a pint!

Robert, I just wanted you to know that I loved your show and will miss it. Hopefully, you will find a new TV home elsewhere.

Also, I wanted to add that I have been turned off by the conduct of the higher ups of Food TV and it's parent company and I have stopped watching their programming, except for your new episodes.

It's unfortunate that they chose to not stand up for you and your talents I have lost all respect for all involved that didn't have your back.

    Keep up the great work!

    Later.

I DON'T PUT MUCH STOCK IN RUMORS AND INNUENDOS. ALL I KNOW IS THAT I HAVE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED EVERY "DINNER: IMPOSSIBLE" SHOW THAT I HAVE SEEN. ROBERT IS A TALENTED, THOROUGHLY ENTERTAINING CHEF WHO BLOWS ME AWAY WITH THE FACT THAT HE CAN THINK UP MENUS AND RECIPES SO FAST AND PUT IT ALL TOGETHER UNDER "IMPOSSIBLE" CONDITIONS. I'M SORRY TO SEE HIM LEAVE THE SHOW, BUT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO WHAT HE WILL DO NEXT! ROBERT, IF YOU EVER NEED A SOUS CHEF WHO DOESN'T HAVE MUCH EXPERIENCE BUT WHO WILL JUMP IN WITH BOTH FEET, FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AND DO IT ALL WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR....CALL ME! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

    Chef Robert-

I really wanted to say that I enjoyed reading the current blog
    posting.

As a chef myself and admirer of yours, I totally understand how
the incident on food network would make any professional feel.

I just wanted to say I totally admire your work, passion, dedication
to the profession, and sticking your morals.

Most people that are not/ or have ever worked in culinary could
understand how much pride a true culinarian has. It is a crazy
business, and if a person is not strong willed, assertive, determinded.
and a multi-tasker, this profession is not for them. One has to
deal with unique sitiuations daily, and sometimes very diffucult
ones. We do this willingly, and make everything perfect without
guests even being aware of our challanges. That is what makes the
    career, in my option, great.

One can not be a great chef if they can not take pressure and
stress with ease. I usually don't even realize the stress invovled
until the event is finished, and I have time to reflect. I just take
the issue at hand and deal with it. For me it has to be perfect in
the guest eyes, no matter what it takes to achieve their happiness.

I want to wish many sucesses and hope only the best, for one
    of the best.

It's not easy but anything involving hard work and determination is WORTH doing for best end results. Anyway I just wanted to say that you and Guy Fieri were the only reasons I watched the unnamed network. I will miss Dinner Impossible. I hope the future is bright because if it is; we've got our shades!!!

    Any DVD's of Dinner Impossible?

    Dear Chef Robert,

'Nuff said. As always, you have my unwavering admiration and support. Faith, family and food -- what more do you need?! ;)

Thanks for the lovely e-mails. Virginia is a wonderful "assistant" to you and I know you are blessed by her presence.

Jim and I especially enjoyed the WDW "Dinner: Impossible" as both kids work for the Mouse. James Jr. hopes to bring me to the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival to meet you!!! He also enjoyed seeing the firehouse episode; we wanted you to know that he builds E-One fire trucks here in Ocala (one was in the Philly station). Small world.

I finally was able to order your book, which will arrive during my recuperation from major surgery. Right now I am just resting and having a lot of time to reflect on my life, my goals, and my "middle ages." Supposedly, I will be a NEW WOMAN come the end of August! HA I don't know about that, but one of the things I am thankful for is I am so glad to have found you as a mentor and friend.

Don't sweat the small stuff. Look how many windows God has opened since one door was closed!

    Sincerely, your friend, ---kay

Not only do I personally wish you and your family the very BEST I must say that the Food Network will miss you dearly. Your show was one of the best...my fav.
I did not, could not believe what I was hearing several months ago. I was so disappointed in the lack of support that you felt when attacked with so many degrading accusations. I think we all know how things can easily get blown out of proportion don't we? IN the end here, you are coming out the winner.
Your style, your expertise and your charm is what kept many of your viewers interested! Keep up your chin and keep on! I look forward to this great blog but more importantly, hearing what you experienced while in Iraq this past week! Can't wait to hear how our troops are doing and God Bless you for doing that! Hope it was fun! Traverse City, Michigan loves you! Sincerely, Caty..mother of 5 and love to cook!

I hadn't heard anything about this whole flap until just now but it sounds like you got railroaded. Dinner: Impossible is one of the 3, *maybe* 4 watchable shows on Food Network and if they're dumb enough to cancel it- not because it has bad ratings, but because of some nonsense drama- that just reflects poorly on them.

Good luck in the future, hope to see you back on TV soon. I'm thinking, Hell's Kitchen Impossible?

    Dear Chef Irvine,
Dinner Impossible was one of the best shows on the Food Network and I want you to know its their loss for cancelling you from the show. I have been cooking for a large family ever since I was 12 years of age and could boil water. I have mastered many of my grandmothers wonderful recipes and concocted a few of my own. Then your show came along and you taught me that I can take the simplest of ingredience and make gourmet meals not only for my family and friends but for large gatherings too.
Eating all day long is a favorite pastime of my large Italian Family and when I say we eat all day long we eat all day long. Its a regular food fest at our family reunion every summer.
I've cooked several of your dishes that you shared with us from Dinner Impossible and they were big hits. The only problem is they were so delish that we've all packed on the pounds.
I was wondering if you plan on writing a cookbook for the food challenged chubby?
I would like to make more healthful meals that taste good, for our large crowd without everyone putting on too many pounds, especially since we are getting older. I can only serve veggies and low cal dips for so long before cries of protests turn into a stampede of chubby chicks and burly boys heading in my direction to do me harm because they are unhappy with the food I serve.
With your expertise I hope you will think about concocting delicious recipes that good for the waistline.
In the meantime I like your blog and look forward to some new recipes from you. I and my friends also hope to see you back on television and in fine cooking form soon.
Rock On Chef, Your the Best

I kind a kinship with Chef Robert cooking under pressure and needing to meet a deadline. My husband thought cooking shows were just girly, until he saw Chef Robert. Sometimes I feel like I'm under the same pressure even though it's just my small family! Pressure is pressure, right? Hope to see some of your recipes soon. Thanks, Janet

Chef Robert, I wanted you to know just how much my husband and I enjoyed your Dinner:Impossible shows. You simply amazed us! I was in awe of how you could take the given ingredients and a short amount of time, in strange kitchens, and prepare meals fit for a king! I envied the people getting the honor to sit and eat one of your meals. How lucky! I will miss your show, but look forward to what the future holds for you. I will be watching for any new shows you have on television. I see in your blog that you will be at EPCOT'S Wine and Food Festival this year. We will be there but probably not at the same time you will. Too bad, as I would love to see you in action. We are excited about going, as we have heard what a wonderful experience the Festival is. Hope you will have fun too. Don't forget to ride Spaceship Earth and Test Track. Two of our favorite rides! Thank you, Chef Robert, for your love and passion for cooking. You inspire me to be a better cook too.

    Peace,

    Robert,

I can imagine the hurt feelings and pain you have gone through. I have never had a similar experience, but have had people and organizations turn on me for reasons that were irrelevant, untrue and completely inaccurate. Unfortunately, perception is 99% of truth in our world.

I don't doubt your abilities as a chef, entertainer or author - I am convinced you will land on your feet and success will find you again.

    Good luck!

Chef Robert: You will always be aces in my family's book. You may likely will not remember, but we met you at the AC Food & Wine event about 4 years ago, and my 4 y/o daughter Marissa was completely taken with you....she still treasures in her room the autographed photo you provided her, as I treasure the Porsche Knife that you gave my wife to surprise me with. We always watched you in Dinner: Impossible with glee, and look forward to soon seening you in some new venue.

Hold your head high! Don't let those who don't really know you (especially the scalawag media) get you down. Your true fans know better. Best of luck!!

    Robert,

You have made me laugh, cry,nod quietly, scream approval at appropriate(or would that be inappropriate) times of DI. You nailed me right on the head with the show DI. I have been in the industry for 34 years with some years as a chef, some as a cook. As a single mom I have taken jobs as a cook, when I really wanted a position of a chef, but spending more time with my two boys was paramount. I feel like we connected as I can see that you have a true passion for what you are doing. I love the craziness of our industry and the uniqueness that it presents anew every day. I take my toque off to you, and just want to let you know that you have my support!

We were very happy to read your blog. We never watched Food Network until last summer and were lucky enough to discover Dinner: Impossible. You and your sous chefs, George, George and David captivated us. Your humor and expertise are unsurpassed and we look forward to hearing of your new endeavor.

    To Robert,
I just wanted to let you know my entire family will miss watching the show. I just saw the new version and well..... it sucked!

    To Food Network,
You can fool alot of people but I for one am a former cop, and sorry to say can't be fooled so easy. You cannot tell me that you all of the suddenly found out about the "padded resume" until just now! Come on if Robert's resume was as really as "padded" as you claimed. We would have found out a long time ago. Everyone makes enemies during there life. So I find it IMPOSSIBLE that Robert would have been on TV and making lots of money, being a celebrity, and NONE of his enemies spoke out about things being untrue. But not only that, even if a resume was padded. YOU kept quite because HE was making YOU MONEY. And you didn't want to kill the golden goose so to speak. Which makes what your network did worse than anything he may have done. You are the ones that have LIED to us, the viewers. And it's time you have a bite of humble pie!

    To Robert,
Take care and best wishes to you and your family.

Here in our Alaskan home, all five of us (three who cook) love to watch your work. We are thrilled to see you moving onward and upward, and can't wait to see what you come up with next. But then, we knew you would come through this. Your true charachter comes shining right through, a real leader. I hope your next endeavor involves recruiting others to work with you as they seem to love following you into "battle", and that really comes across. Like the old story of "Stone Soup", in the end, it is the process of everyone working together, bringing the meal into existence, seemingly out of the ether, that is the true magic we all can share, every day. We'll definately be watching for you. Cheers.

It's already been said many times here, but my wife and I
both enjoyed your show, it's really the only show we watch
regularly. The good news is I have all this years episodes
saved on tivo. The first show I saw that got me hooked was
the cowboy episode, which required "900 pieces of cornbread.
Well, the best line of the show seems somehow appropriate
here.."the cornbread just ain't gittin it!" The new DI "ain't
gittin it" either. Love your show, and we miss like a memeber
of the family is gone. Good luck with future endeavors.

    ~ Greetings & Salutations ~

    Robert,

I have been out of touch for awhile and did not know anything about your leaving Food Network. My Daddy fell and injured himself June 22nd and was transferred from Orlando Hospital to a Physical Therapy Facility on July 14th, where he is currently residing. While in the hospital we found out that my father has Multiple Myleoma (Bone Marrow Cancer). So my entire world has been turned upside down and every which way. I am now in the process of moving into my father's residence so that I may care for him. I have not had much opportunity to watch television lately.

I am sorry to hear that there were uncomfortable (putting it nicely, I bet) situations and I will miss you and "Dinner Impossible" GREATLY!

Watching you and hearing your words always seemed to get me going. After watching YOUR "Dinner Impossible" episodes, I felt that I had more strength and courage to get up and do things. I started playing around more with food/various ingredients. I seemed to demonstrate overall a greater sense of creativity. I want to thank you for the positive impact that you have had on my life. Food Network may have helped you with an outlet but the inspiration came from you and your crew. I guess being away from the television set, I forgot about those things. I will, in the future, consciously remind myself of you and your courage, strength, inspiration and creativity so that I can realize those qualities within me to get through the coming days with grace and gratitude.

Please keep us informed of what, where and when you will be back on television. Hopefully soon!

I love this Blog. I think this will be a great way to stay in touch with your fans or me (your cheerleader). When I am near a computer, no laptop yet, I will be checking in and touching base with you.

I was still hopeful that you were not going to dismiss the idea of opening 2 restaurants in Florida. Are you still thinking of opening the restaurants in Florida? If so, do you have any type of time table for the openings?

I wish you and your family good health, happiness, joy, love and extra smiles so that you may share with others.

As always, Thanks Bunches for your inspiration, courage, strength and creativity !!!

    With Sincerest Gratitude,
    Dawn Julieanna
    (Cheerleader for Chef Robert Irvine)

P.S. We are all human therefore we will all flub up in our lives, some more than others. We learn & grow from our errors, flubs, mistakes, etc. and then it is how we decide to get back on our feet again that is the real testament to our character. BRAVO for handling your situations with dignity and integrity!

In my opinion, there is no other host of Dinner: Impossible, and that show should be retired with your excellence, entertaining personality and fantastic on the spot menus. I am very disappointed in the Food Network executives. Regardless of any resume, the fact that it's the third top-rated show can't be ignored, it was you that brought that show to life.

My husband and I had the privilege to meet you briefly at the Food & Wine Festival last year at Epcot. We were pleasantly surprised to see your on screen persona translated enthusiatically in-person - a warm, engaging, friendly and gracious individual.

When a door closes; a window always opens. Can't wait to see what's next in your endaevors. Best of luck!

    Chef Robert,

Quiet honestly I know a lot of people who watched your show and cared less about the whole controversy. It's your personality that made DI. Just like Rachael Ray and her shows. She has no professional cooking experience at all. I have no plans on watching DI anymore. My wife and I saw the first show, hated it and will never watch again.

After watching "The Next Food Network Star" it showed how little talent is at the top management of the Food Network. The person from last season flopped and this one will fair no better. In the end I think that they will see the error they made in letting you go. None of their new shows have been that interesting.

I can't wait for your new show. My wife and I will make sure we set our DVR. Good luck in all your endevors.

Thanks for the email, but no matter what you say I don't like Michael Symon. My wife and I think he is weird and I can't stand his laugh.

We were suprised (to say the least) to see you were no longer hosting D:I. So I did a little research.

What is so scandalous about all this? I'm baffled.

Fact is, some of the better chefs w/ shows on FN had no formal training. If the chef and recipes are fantastic, who cares what their history is?

If it (Dinner: Impossible) was the 3rd watched show on FN, that speaks for itself. Great chef, great recipes.

I don't care if you worked @ a hotdog stand. You got the job done, have incredible charisma, and gave us access to your knowledge... mission accomplished.

PLEASE... please don't let this take up a dot of space in your head, or take time out of your life. It's in no way worth it.

Entertainment is a fickle industry which only watches out for #1. When you find your new deal, they'll be saying they discovered you.

I love Michael Symon, but YOU are the reason people tuned in. NOT THE CONCEPT.

Be proud of yourself Mr. Irvine!

Hope to see you again soon.

    Regarding: Getting On With It
I just have to say this: I don't watch food net nearly as much as I used to. And after finding out that you were leaving the show, I told them I have become rather disenchanted with Food TV. Hi Robert,

I finally decided to see what the heck was going on. I have not seen your show in awhile and I saw that you were no longer on the judging panel on the Next Chef. I knew something was wrong. I could see it in your eyes. I could see that you were very pure in thought and deeply cared about people's feelings. And this makes sense to me now when you are going through a hard time it gets like that.
I think you are very geniune and interesting person. I love the episode where you were doing the wedding and you had to make the plates look nice and the girl did not want to help you so she ended up bringing green plants. Yuch! I thought oh my gosh he is just like me with the detail! I could have just died! I could have smashed every plate because it wasn't right. A thing of lovliness. Anyway I totally get you and I don't care about the detail in that respect because I know how it is when you work for corp. co. oh my gosh I know! everything gets top secret and scarry. You will just have to go alternative. Take it from a homeopath here in America. That just means that you will become a individual and pave your own path.
I have to say when I saw the final show for the New best chef I had that feeling that feeling something was wrong and that feeling about someones job and that feeling of the other tv personalites acting like nothing is happening but it is. Man! you cannot hide that! For them it is a bit discrediting but a part of the job.
Do your own thing everyone LOVES you!!! I kept telling my sister about you in Austrailia and she couldn't find you.
Take care and I will support you no matter what you do. You cannot hide what is inside of a person. You are beaming! Sorry you had to go through all of that! Really Love Alexandra :)

My Mum always said 'Chalk it up to experience and keep going.' I loved watching you on Dinner: Impossible and agree that you are a fine chef and have an entertaining demeanor in front of the camera. Robert: I am sorry that you'll no longer host D:I.

I caught a glimpse of you on D:I while flipping channels and
I was captivated because you are so handsome and tall and

with the grace of a gazelle.

Then as I watched the show, I found you to be a very

I watched several episodes and still can't understand how you pulled some meals together, but you did and everyone was

Your show was the only reason I was watching Food Network lately. Above and beyond the controversy, you're still a great chef. I loved your commentary on DI - you kept your sense of humor and the ridiculous in every situation. And your sous chefs were great, especially George, George, and David!

I'll watch for you in other venues. You'll do better than the Food Network - their programming is terrible lately.

    Go forth and conquer!

I was watching the food network tonight and saw a promo for Dinner Impossible with a new chef. I was mystified. My wife and I loved watching you on Dinner Impossible and I just had to Google what happened to you. I can't believe that Food Network would fail to renew your contract when your show was the best thing going for it - over a little career embellishment. Who cares, you are a great chef and a great personality. I must say I will never watch another episode unless it features you. Best of luck - I know you will bounce back stronger than ever.

I wish you were back on the food network. I do not like Mike Symon much. I wish John Besh had won the next Iron Chef. I had always thought that Dinner Impossible was your trademark program. If the food network wants to continue a show like that, they could have renamed it or called in Dinner Impossible 2. You are a hard task master on the show but watching hell's kitchen and Top Chef, you are no monster when it comes to getting the food done on time. I have read your book and you have stated the same things there that you have said again on your blog. You may not want to name names on who they were that said bad things about you, but maybe you should to make them the fools instead of trying to ruin your good name. Just a thought. I will be waiting for a new book and hopefully a new show.

    Robert,

My wife loves to watch the Food Network, and I always tried to change the channel. However, after watching one episode of Dinner: Impossible, I was hooked. It is obvious that you are an incredible talent, both in the kitchen and on camera. I refuse to watch the new episodes of DI with Mike Symon. I really don't like Mike Symon as an Iron Chef, I like him even less on DI.

I hope you continue to blog regularly, I will be keeping up with you, and hope that we will cross paths again either through another television show on another network, or if you are ever in the Chicago area, I would love to try some of your cooking. I won't wish you luck, because a man of your talents will certainly have no problems finding a new avenue for your energy, instead I wish good blessings on you and your family.

The proof is in the execution not in the past. I don't really care what the background information posts, there are many executive chefs that have no business being in the position. The entertainment and quality of showbusiness you provided is what made the show. Aside from the creativity and spontinaity (which is the true test of a good chef) you had the showman ship to pull it off.
Best wishes and hopes we will see you soon on the travel channel.

It is sad that you won't be the host of Dinner:Impossible anymore because you made that show what it is. The way you cooked in the kitchen was always a lot of fun to watch and made me hungry. Stay strong and good luck. Sincerely, Melissa Denhart

I had no idea about this entire incident until I turned on the TV just to watch your DI program. I was shocked to not see you in the program but another chef doing Wildwood. (He doesn't feel the same either compared to your energy and compassion of having fun while cooking under pressure. -_-;) So, I took today to find out what happened and all my research led me to here.

Robert, I enjoyed watching you and all the things you've done in DI! ^_^ I'm sorry to hear about how that restaurant plan didn't work out well. You took the best choice of not opening them.

    Dear Chef Irvine,

I'm so glad to see you've decided to clear the air and deal with the ridiculous circus that the corporate entertainment media has unfairly hounded you with. I've greatly enjoyed watching your episodes of Dinner:Impossible, and so has my mother, who is an even bigger fan. Whatever hair-splitting in your credentials the hounds chose to focus on, it has been abundantly clear that you have the skills and drive of a great chef, and what more credibility can one have? It really is unfortunate that Food Network chose to cave in to the perception that any of your viewers would actually care about these unfounded rumors, that frankly, most of them were unlikely to have even heard about.

At any rate, thanks for all the good times on the show, and here's to hoping you'll be back in the public eye in the positive light you've earned.

    Best of luck!

    Hi Robert,

The past few months I had been tied to my cubicle working long days and not getting the opportunity to see Dinner Impossible as much as I had before in the past. I finally get a break in my hectic schedule to only discover you are no longer part of the show.

To say the least, the corporate executives at the Food Network are cowards in their decision to release you from your contract. If anyone one of them at the Food Network Corporate Office had a half a brain they would see this blog and realize what a huge mistake they made. Having worked in the restaurant industry myself for many years I can truly appreciate the hard work and talent one must possess to cook for the various and particular tastes of the many people in this world. You possess true talent on so many levels. You are the reason the show was such a success.

I was skeptical at first about the concept of the show. But, after watching just one show I was immediately hooked. I know the rest of America was captured by your wit, humor, personality and picture perfect food. I knew the moment your show and you had become conversation at our work during our breaks you had captured America's interest. As you can see with this blog, you have a very loyal following of fans who will immediately tune into any show you host.

You know as well as I do, it is a familiar feeling in the restaurant industry to not stay to long at anyone job. The next best thing is just around the corner for you and your fans will be waiting at the window to see you once again at the top of your game.

I was very happy to find out you had this blog. Please keep us informed of your future endeavors. I can't wait to see your next move. Best wishes to you and your family.

    Chef,

My husband and I were watching FoodNetwork the other night when the new promos for Dinner:Impossible came on without you in them. We were shocked and are very sad to see you go. It is unfathomable that anyone would try to (or could) fill your shoes on Dinner: Impossible. When we first started watching it we didn't quite "get" you, but it didn't take long to see how much of your heart and soul you poured into each dinner. We saw your hard work and determination and how much you care about making those you cook for happy. And we saw your sense of humour. You have *such* a good one to take even a bit of the craziness we saw on each episode--and you STILL managed to turn it all into amazing food!

Messed up stuff happens sometimes, but I think all we can really do is learn what we can from it and move on. Dinner: Impossible really highlighted your resiliency and grace under pressure and we know you will, yet again, end up with amazing results in the midst of all the craziness. We think you are one of the tip-top chefs of FoodNetwork and will miss our regularly scheduled time with you.

After all the emails of protest submitted to Food Network, I was saddened to learn that you had indeed been replaced as host of Dinner Impossible. To me you made that show it did not make you you and its popularity I feel, will dwindle or possibly be cancelled out all together. Regardless of what occurred, we are all human and make mistakes. Food network has become a huge conglomerate and it is sad that they no longer care what the audience wants and more about producing the next big star. I feel that your training, and talent demonstrated on Dinner Impossible should have stood as a testimony to your professionalism, experience and ingenuity. You are a true chef.

After seeing the commercials for the new season of Dinner Impossible and its new host I found myself yelling at the tv. I truly believed that our letters of support would have kept you on. I have since removed the new season set for recording from my Tivo and I will not watch again until they bring you back. In the meantime Food Network will continue to bore the public with their overdose of the "Golden Boy" Bobby Flay as he hosts yet another show along with Guy Ferri who spends most of his shows stuffing food in his mouth then actually cooking or Racheal Ray who is not even classically trained.

I and your fans will wait for the day that Food Networks comes to their senses and realizes the prize that they let get away. Your show was not only exciting and challenging to watch but your ability to think fast on your feet and create fantasic dishes that excited the palate.

I wish you the best in all you do and look forward to your return someday. Plus you are way too HOTT not be on television. I will miss my opportunities on Wednesday nights to ogle you.

    Chef Robert,

My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed watching you on television every week. In fact, it is the only Food Network show that she could convince me to watch. Every week I was increasingly impressed by your presence in the kitchens and how you were able take command while accomplishing your "mission." I was especially touched when you handed down your knives to the assisting chef on the Russian cruiseliner. I would love to have the opportunity to dine anywhere you are cooking. I think it's great you have started a blog where people can get a better look at you and perhaps get their fix of dry British humor. I wish you the best and hope to see you on television in the near future. The Food Network lost one of their most talented chefs, and I don't think I will be tuning in anytime soon after seeing the new commercials for Dinner Impossible.

    Hello Chef Irvine,

I thoroughly enjoyed watching your show, even if only for the bad temper you sometimes showed. But overall, your show was fun to watch, and I can't say the same about the new guy doing the show now, but in the end, in the ten years I've followed Food Network, I admit that the channel has gone on a rapid decline, becoming more and more commercial.

So Robert, please keep doing what you're doing, maybe you'll even meet my brother (who is a trained cook and may one day become a chef himself) and come visit Hamburg, Germany one day. You'll love our beautiful city and our historic harbour.

We have nothing against Michael Symon, the show is just not what it used to be without you. Just the other night Jason commented on something someone said to M.S. and said "Man, he didn't handle that at all like Robert would've..He would've told them what they could do with it.." And it's not near as suspenseful without you. Although its obvious the deadline was always gonna be made, You made us wonder sometimes. Greatest Luck in All!!

It prompted me to look into where my favorite chef (you) went to and was instantly shocked to see all the backlash about such relatively insignificant things. You are incredibly talented and always completed your missions with style and skill, end of story. I also never failed to be impressed by your cooking accomplishments and how well you conducted yourself and your fellow chefs during the course of D:I so it really sucks that you will not be a part of new episodes. Dear Chef,
I love to cook even more since I watched YOUR show because you pulled off making high quality feasts for the masses interesting to all of us sitting at home watching on TV. I didn't even watch the Food Network until one day I saw your Mission Impossible III Thanksgiving episode...and WOW! I never thought anyone could pull off the toughness with panache in a cooking show?!

I like other fans didn't even realize there's a new chef on your show. He's okay, but kind of repeats the niches Duff and Guy already fill, no? He seems almost apologetic about the way he runs the kitchen -he eliminates dishes not for the benefit of the guests, but for his inabilities? -that's doesn't seem very D:I. I don't think I will watch the new episodes anymore -I'll bookmark your blog.

I sent feedback to the FN site too. People tune into D:I, No Reservations and Ace of Cakes, etc not necessarily to learn new recipes/cooking techniques, but also to see the hosts in action.

    Chef Robert,

Thank you for your blog. It's good to know how well you are doing and I am glad you had the opportunity to set the record straight, rather than have your fans only hear what the media chooses for us to read. It is a one-sided world as of late and unfortunately, many people believe all they hear.

I have enjoyed watching your talent, creativity and quick thinking in the kitchen (or no kitchen at all) on Dinner:Impossible. I was very upset when I heard of your leaving. I am so excited to hear of your upcoming opportunities and look forward to seeing much more from you.

I have to say I have seen the newer episodes of the former and you are sorely missed. Your on-the-spot thinking, variety of ideas and ingredients, and the simplicity of taking an average dish and turning it into a masterpiece, combined with your perfect balance of wit, humor and seriousness about getting the job done is something they have not been able to replace. Nor could they.

I'm so glad that I found your blog today. I had written to the Food Network protesting their actions, but of course, did not receive the courtesy of an answer. What did I expect after the shoddy way in which they treated you? It sounded to me like you stepped on someone's toes and they had to find a way to get back at you. Regardless of what happens to ratings on FN. Dinner: Impossible was certainly the favorite FN show of both my husband and myself and I would rate it among the top three of all TV shows! We are no longer watching shows with the new chef (he never impressed us on Iron Chef, let alone on D:I). We are however, looking forward to seeing you in any new format. Dear Robert,

I have really enjoyed the "original DI" no one can take that from you. I would like to share a saying that I hold true to my heart: "Hold fast to dreams for if dreams die life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly."

Take Care and please keep is posted as to the progress of your dreams.

    Dear Chef Robert Irvine,

I have been a fan of Dinner Impossible since the very start. That was until the new season with Chef Michael Symon started.

I never took the time to write complaint letters to networks, because I always figured they really don't care. But I could not take it anymore, and with your absence from the show you built up found the need to write the network a letter.

Someday, I would like to shake your hand and meet you.

Below is the letter I sent to the network:

    Dear Food Network Staff,
For sometime now, I have been a big fan of the show Dinner Impossible with Chef Robert Irvine. The way he handles the challenges with such enthusiasm and talent just draws you right into the show. I used to really look forward to each week watching the show, and I understand my comments and views might not be that of everyone elses.

When the new season started this year, I was a little disappointed to find out the show changed the chef to Michael Symon. I thought this might not have been a good change to see since I enjoy seeing Chef Robert Irvine. Unfortunately, after watching several of the new episodes, I am very disappointed in the show. It no longer has the "Wow" factor which used to pull me into it. Chef Michael Symon is a great chef for Iron Chef America, but he doesn't have the same qualities that Chef Robert Irvine brought to the show. Its really hard to explain, but there is something missing from the new show.

The challenges are no longer fun to watch, especially the way they are handled. Its become a very poor concept. Especially when you watch Chef Michael Symon do that annoying laugh, and everyone else is doing the cooking, and he just counts down while running in circles. He doesn't cook but instead everyone else handles the work. For example the Philadelphia Block party where others made sausage and peppers, and philly cheese steak sandwiches. There was no vision or actually effort put into that episode.

I understand that my views probably will not make any difference, but I really would like to see you bring back Chef Robert Irvine. As of right now, I am no longer a fan of Dinner Impossible and can not understand why as a company you would make such a change that ruins the show.

Thank you for taking the time in reading my letter.

    Sincerely, Ralph Guadagno

Chef Robert - Thank you for sharing this. My boyfriend and I wondered why you were no longer on the show. We love to cook and enjoyed theorizing how you would pull it all off each week!

I found your blog through the Facebook group that is protesting your departure from Dinner Impossible. It sounds like you are moving on and embracing new opportunities. Good for you! I look forward to hearing what is next! Incidentally - thanks for the recipes you are sharing here. We are planning the salmon for tonight...so how quickly should we be able to pull that one off? ~ :-)

My husband and I used to watch DI religiously and were quite surprised when suddenly Michael Symon was the host. We couldn't believe he had won the Iron Chef competition and find his "cooking" to be lackluster and unimaginative.

I don't see him wearing a kilt for sure!

You always were so deeply involved in your challenges - not just the food but you immersed yourself in the whole meaning of the challenge - whether that meant wearing a kilt or swimming at camp!

I loved how you could change gears quickly when something wasn't available or failed on you. That's a skill that as a "home chef" I am seriously lacking!

I can't wait for what ever comes next from you - I'm sure it will be top notch!

(PS And what is UP with FN lately - the last "chef" they picked, Aaron from Camden, is a one spice wonder...ugh).

My husband and I really miss you on your show Dinner Impossible. The new host is okay, but we liked the show better with you in it. The show is definitely not the same without you in it.

I'm glad that you posted this blog and set the record straight. Frankly, we really didn't care what was said, you were awesome on the show and you accomplished the task that was set before you.

The show was entertaining with you in it. FoodNetwork lost a great cook and a star chef. It's their loss.

    Chef Robert,

Well put. I was shocked, like many others, when I heard and read the shocking news regarding your relationship with Food Network. My wife and I really enjoyed watching you on Dinner: Impossible, and ever since (no disrespect to Chef Symon), but the show isn't the same.

We look forward to you future successes and endeavors, either it being on the food service side, or on the TV/entertainment side. I hope that Food Network will either reconcile with you and reinstate you to D:I (after seeing a drop in ratings with the current season), or you find greater success elsewhere.

    God bless Chef.

    Robert,
You are the only reason that my fiancee and I watched the food network.

Now, we unfortunately refuse to watch unless they repeat one of your DI episodes.

I am praying each time we watch one of those repeats that we will see a commercial for your new show... they would be terribly mistaken not to give you another avenue to pursue.

We both love you as if you were a member of our own family. Your humor and demeanor during the shows kept us laughing time and time again.

You are also one of the contributing reasons to my working hard to lose weight. The way you carried yourself made me want to follow the same fitness path that you yourself have taken in life.

In short, you are a truly wonderful and inspirational person. The media is out to destroy everything in this country, as I am sure you already know.

They unfortunately can't stop us from watching, regardless of what they say.

    Thank you for being you,

    Dear Chef Robert,

I just wanted to write to let you know that I look forward to any new projects that you begin and hope to see you entertaining us again on television. I thoroughly enjoyed the Robert Irvine version of Dinner Impossible; it was my favorite Food Network show. Now the show has absolutely no appeal, nor has the network. I have tried watching the show a few times, and quite frankly, it is simply boring without you leading it. I cannot get through an entire episode before turning it off. I don't have anything against the new chef; he just cannot carry the tone of the show that was completely yours. In a day and age when celebrities commit all sorts of offenses, Food Network should be ashamed of themselves to cause such an uproar over what was or was not on a simple resume of one of its most popular chefs. Do they think that we, the viewing audience, really care either way? People are very self-serving. When we turn on the television, it is to be entertained. You bring a big and entertaining personality to the television industry, and it is a great loss for us to not see you on your own show. I hope that this past year has brought you countless wonderful opportunities with many more on the horizon for you!

    Greetings Chef,

I am ectatic that Food Network has decided to bring you back for more episodes of Dinner Impossible.

When the controversy first reared its ugly head, I sent a scathing email to Food Network basically saying "Who cares what anyone says, the man is a miracle worker. Just let him cook!" I'm glad that me and thousands of others managed to get them to change their minds.

Everyone portrays their resume in the best possible light. You had some scurrilous detractors that did their best to take advantage of that to your detriment. In law school they teach a simple maxim: if the law is on your side, argue the law. If the facts are on your side, argue the facts. If neither is on your side, attack the character of the witness.

Obviously someone felt the need to attack your character. Fortunately, your skill and integrity prevailed. I look forward to new episodes of Dinner: Impossible.

    Good on ya, mate!
    # Krista on 12/21/08 at 13:54
Glad to see you are moving forward. Your talent and integrity will put you ahead of the game, and Food Network (Scripps) will realize that they made a terrible mistake. Clearly, your talent is what made that show and they have bitten the hand that fed them. Best of luck to you, Chef in your new adventures and we'll be watching!

    Robert,
Welcome back to Dinner Impossible! I love your book which a friend gave me for Christmas last year. I really don't care about the whole resume issue. I did not judge you as a person after Food Network canned you, and while it was nice to hear your side of the story, I would have respected you regardless. I have made serious mistakes in my life, and am doing my best to take responsibility and better myself, and I also have found out who my true friends are. Michael Symon is cool, but Dinner Impossible is YOUR show. Consider doing an episode at the annual Aviation Week Laureates dinner held every April. I wish you the best.

    Chef Robert,

I have enjoyed watching your many episodes of Dinner Impossible. I have never seen you settle for anything average or status quo when it comes to your challenges. It always has to be top notch. Your qualities strike me as one who has honor, integrity, and giving your best. I believe this unfortunate incident in your life was due to miscommunication of the technical staff. What's done is done. Sometimes these things happen to push a person to move on to new areas. With that said, Chef Robert, I wish you well with your future endeavors and hope to see you again on TV.

    Robert,

I for one am very excited to see you back on DI.
Like many on the comments posted above, the show lost it's energy and appeal. When I read that FN canceled you on the show citing integrity of the network, I knew that FN was CYA. It was a shame that the proof was on every episode. A network that showcases people coming from nothing (ie Paula Dean) then to dismiss you does not display integrity.

So that is why I believe your return is a vindication that FN was wrong. Maybe in not so many words but still nice to see.

I will once again schedule my DVR for your shows and look forward to once again see the energy, the passion, dedication and commitment to quality food that you express on each mission.

Everyone can see that you're talented, and the fact that there is always someone out there to bring you down - it is very apparent that you have the culinary skills, the creativity, and the passion for food on your show. There is absolutely no doubt that you are experienced and bring that enthusiasm and an adrenaline-high to the show on the Food Network. It sucks that the FN are now getting that foot-in-mouth/salty feeling and are asking you back; you are so much better than them! Either way, best luck on your upcoming shows and many successes!

Hi from Scotland. I only discovered your TV show in the last few months and have loved every episode.
I take you at face value, a big, decent man with a good sense of of humour ... much like myself.

The minute that the w*nkers in the media get a hold of any stories they are far too quick to recycle any kind of rubbish they can gte their hands on.

You may be interested to hear that Gordon Ramsay was recently exposed as having exagerated stories of his soccer career .. again the media has used miles of print to report this non-story

I truly hope that you find a new TV outlet because you have a great talent, With great respect and best wishes AJ

I am thrilled that you have set the record straight and that you were brought back to continue your impossible missions.

You are fun to watch and learn techniques from. Keep up the impossible missions!

I was so happy to find this blog of yours! When all the mess came out on Food Network I was one of the thousands who wrote and told them they were CRAZY to take you off your show and that you had proven your worthiness over and over. To take this drastic action based on rumor was ridiculous and made a lot of people seriously wonder about who was running Food Network.

I worked in personnel for the Federal Government for 15 years and it is a "automatic" fire if someone misrepresents on their work application but even there, when someone has gotten the job and performed well they were kept on. The people who made this decision to let you go were totally misguided and couldn't see beyond their own noses. A very poor corporate decision.

I knew the "replacement" for you in your show would not work. I am very happy to see you back on and going strong and always amazing us!

    Stay well!

I stand by you 100%! Everyone has challenges in life, it's how we handle it that counts. Well done, Sir! I look forward to seeing more of your shows, dinner impossible wasn't the same without you!
Thank you for your military service and all you do for active duty service members.
    Sincerely,

My husband and I were thrilled to see your return to FN. I hope there are more episodes coming - in the meantime we watch the reruns, catching things we missed the first time.

I learned how to chop properly watching you teach helpers on your challenges. You just never know what little gems come from your shows!

    Hi Chef Irvine.

I was saddened to hear about the issues that arose with Food Network as your show was one of my favourites - I always hoped that there was no truth to the allegations.

Being a busy guy, I did not keep up with developments, however, I just saw a commercial for your return to DI and must say that I'm absolutely overjoyed to see that you'll be back.

Glad I've found your blog and would like to say that many of us have always felt that you're a standup guy.

    Welcome back!
